Activity:  Read/Listen to Book on CD, Discuss and Act out characters Music Education Concept:  Pitch Materials:  Buzz and Ollie's High, Low Adventure with read-along CD Begin by reading the story using a high pitched voice for the high characters and a low pitched voice for the low characters. (Use CD instead of reading) Discuss the locations of the different characters such as owl high in the tree, etc.It is important to associate high position with high sound and low position with low sound.  A screech owl was used in this story to coordinate with its' high position. Divide the room into a high side and low side.  As you call out a character the appropriate side responds in what might be that character's voice.  You will get some very interesting character sounds. Activity:  Wave Game Music Education Concept:  Pitch Materials:  Instrument, small pieces of cloth Divide students into 3 straight lines.  When you play high notes on your chosen instrument, the students hold their hands high in the air.  When you play low notes they squat down.  As you speed up they will make a wave motion going up and down similar to the wave motion of fans at a ballgame.  They have great fun responding in this way. You can vary this game by having different students play high and low notes on your instrument and by using small pieces of cloth for the children to wave when going up and down.
